In a special afternoon full of firsts at The Empire Cineplex on Friday 11th December, Progresif Media held the screening premiere of their debut locally produced original series, Serpihan Masa Lalu.
It was a historic occasion for Progresif’s content streaming platform, Progresif Media, as they screened the mobile app’s first locally produced original series, Serpihan Masa Lalu for 97 invited guests, including the guests of honor, Yang Mulia Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari, the Permanent Secretary of Culture and Community at the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports.
Serpihan Masa Lalu, Malay for ‘Fragments of Time’, is a coming of age story of friendship, love and heartbreak set against a backdrop of some of Brunei’s most picturesque settings. The three-part miniseries follows a 21-year-old bookworm named Dalilah (played by debutante actress Wafiqah Abu Bakar), who, encouraged by her friends, begins to explore all that the universe has to offer, including enduring the highs and lows of the first love and first heartbreak.
The Progresif Media-supported series was produced through collaborative effort between Vertex Films, NHAT Studio and Kashf Kreative, and features a stellar first-time cast of Wafiqah Abu Bakar, Safwan Sofian, Hamizan Iman, Yaseerah Husny, Selina Khoo, Amir Shamri, Ayesha Said, Aiman Mateen and Fakhrul Razi, with the crooner as the biggest drawcard on the list.
Beyond the screening of the first episode, the streaming platform presented mock cheques to the producers, a symbolic gesture for the revenue sharing agreement that will see the content creators paid per every stream of each episode, which will be hosted exclusively on the Progresif Media streaming platform.
Speaking at the event, Olivia Ong, Head of Progresif Media expressed her satisfaction that the app, which was announced as a platform to showcase the best of local content, creators and culture and enabling local creators to be paid for their work without needing 100,000 subscribers to monetize their content on Youtube, was able to launch their first original local series only a few months after their launch in August this year.
When asked for comment, Olivia stated “As the first ever Progresif Media Original, we are extremely proud of Serpihan Masa Lalu. What the cast and crew have been able to achieve is nothing short of exceptional. We hope this production will be well-received by the audience, and that people will also engage with additional podcast series that takes the audience behind the scenes and highlights the creative process, social media campaigns and lets you get to know the actors and crew”.
“Serpihan Masa Lalu and all the extras we’ve produced to go with it examplifies the full spectrum of attractions that a Progresif Media collaboration can bring about. We are excited beyond words for future collaborations with local content creators”, Olivia Ong added.
Progresif Media is video and audio content streaming platform freely available for download on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. It is open for subscription to all Brunei mobile users on all networks.
