A total of 41 BIBD ALAF students received sponsorship from Progresif in the form of mobile broadband dongles and 3 months worth of broadband connectivity. These much-needed sponsorships were distributed to BIBD ALAF students who will be sitting for major examinations such as the GCE A’Level, GCE O’Level, Brunei Religious Certificate Exam or Sijil Pelajaran Ugama Brunei (SPUB) and the Primary School Assessment Exam or Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (PSR).
With all schools in Brunei Darussalam transitioning to online learning or virtual school in light of COVID-19, it was important for BIBD to ensure that our bright but underprivileged students were not left behind. The provision of broadband connectivity would enable these students to be able to access their online teaching materials and video conferencing sessions with their teachers. Progresif’s Head of Brand Strategy, Hafiza Mohamad said “We are more than happy to contribute to such a worthy initiative. Last year we launched the Progresif 1% Pledge, a campaign to give one percent of every dollar we earn to supporting our CSR pillars, of which Education is an important one”.
BIBD’s Chief Marketing Officer, Hjh Nurul Akmar binti Hj Mohd Jaafar said “During these unprecedented and difficult times, BIBD is committed to taking a Whole of Nation approach to ensure that the underprivileged and vulnerable are taken care of. We are proud to work with a partner such as Progresif. Their contribution today reflects their continuous commitment to promoting connectivity and educational access to all Bruneians”.
The BIBD ALAF Programme currently supports 240 students, with 41 of them due to sit for major examinations in the current academic year. The programme is the only of its kind in the country that supports the life-long learning aspirations of its students, providing both financial and holistic academic support. One of the objectives of the BIBD ALAF Programme is to ensure that talented but underprivileged students are not limited by their financial circumstances, therefore students are also selected from a family background with a monthly household income level of not more than BND500.
The programme is kept sustainable by the collaborative efforts of both the private and public sector, which includes BIBD’s own charity expeditions, generous contributions from corporate agencies as well as the general public.
