21st January 2021 - Progresif kicked off their yearlong partnership with the Ministry of Education, ‘Progresif for Schools’, with a career discovery workshop at Sekolah Menengah Pengiran Isteri Hajah Mariam, Serasa.
During a two-hour workshop at SMPIHM Serasa, fifty students took part in a Progresif-MOE workshop led by local learning platform startup, Mavens Hive, aimed at introducing the learners to the infinite possibilities for future careers by exposing them to real-life models from wide range of professions and taking part in interactive exercises to prompt self-discovery. The program was conceptualized through intensive planning and creative problem solving between the MOE’s Career Education Unit, Department of Schools as the champion for the project, Progresif’s Corporate Social Responsibility Team as the main organisers, and Maven’s Hive as the workshop facilitators.
Speaking to Goh Chai Li, lead educator and founder of Mavens Hive, the three-hour workshop consisted of multiple components, first by guiding the students through self-discovery to unearth their unique values, strengths and passions to gain a greater understanding of what career talents may guide the students towards, and then by allowing them to hear from the experience of working professionals in a range of traditional and non-traditional career paths.
Lauded as a successful pilot of the programme, Progresif’s Head of Brand Strategy Hafiza Mohamed stated that she was proud that “the multidimensional ‘Progresif for Schools’ initiative with the MOE was off to a good start and hopes to maintain the momentum throughout the year”.
The career discovery workshops will continue monthly at nine more secondary schools across the country, with the intention of giving as many learners as possible a foundation to begin planning their subject choices and life plans towards specific and attainable careers. The next workshop will take place at Sekolah Menengah Tanjong Maya next month.
Progresif for Schools was officially greenlit on 29 September 2020 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Progresif and the Ministry of Education and is a multidimensional collaborative program designed to meet the common goal of ensuring the success of Brunei’s youth at meeting the educational demands of the 21st Century. The yearlong partnership consists of multiple engagements in educational institutions around the country, and includes a plan to allow members of the public to contribute to providing internet access to local students by donating a data quota to a school of their choice.
