An Nur Harapan Opening Ceremony

An Nur Harapan Opening Ceremony

19th March 2020 – An-Nur Harapan launched its first ever fundraising Fun Fair event on Friday, 19th March at the organisation’s grounds in Jalan Kebangsaan. The opening ceremony was officiated by Yang Berhormat Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. Guests to the ceremony included government officials, An-Nur Harapan’s Board of Directors, representatives of various Embassies and foreign missions in Brunei Darusslam, event sponsors and supporters of the organisation.

The launch was the start of a 3-day, all-weekend fundraising effort which includes exciting, fairground-type of games, participation by Corporate and SME vendors showcasing their services and food & beverage offerings.

This event is an opportunity for the public and other organisations to come together to show their support towards the long-term sustenance of An-Nur Harapan’s mission and vision.

Over 1,000 advanced tickets were sold for the event. The funds raised will cover the operational costs of the Centre, specifically the running of UNIKLEARN, which is a life skills and training programme for young adults with different abilities. The objective of UNIKLEARN is to empower these youths, aged 16 and above, to become independent and be true contributing members of society. This event also provided a chance for the UNIKLEARN trainees to practice their new-learnt social skills in a real-life scenario.

An-Nur Harapan’s Board of Director member, Noorsurainah Tengah, shared in her speech that 2021 marked the 4th cycle of the programme, which started in 2018. Close to half of UNIKLEARN’s graduates have since gone on to gainful employment or continued with their vocational education.

She then invited guests and Fun Fair-goers to contribute to the Tree of Hope, with symbolic ‘leaves’ of varying denominations, and leave positive notes of encouragement for the UNIKLEARN trainees and trainers. Noorsurainah also announced their latest initiative called the Donation Pledge, whereby the public are able to subscribe on a monthly or yearly basis to show their financial commitment in support of the Centre’s long-term goals. The Centre’s updated “Wish List” was also announced and available for viewing on its website. This ongoing initiative invites members of the public to contribute items that will then be used to facilitate the training of UNIKLEARN’s participants.

The event received numerous support consisting of cash sponsors from NBT (Brunei) Sdn Bhd, D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd, Ezy Printing Sdn Bhd & Pro-Builder Sdn Bhd. There were also in-kind sponsorships from Bayu Ilham Motors Sdn Bhd, Processta Printing, Adison Marketing, Progresif, Suci, and Capers/Le Taj/Senja group of restaurants.

To this end, the Board of An Nur Harapan extended their gratitude to everyone who volunteered, donated items, services, attended or supported the event in anyway. The Fun Fair would not have been possible without the whole community coming together and working hand-in-hand to make it a success. The event is ongoing until Sunday, 21st March and tickets are available for sale at the entrance to the Fun Fair. The public is advised to park at the Indoor Stadium, where transportation will be provided to the event venue.
